The effects of the capacity increase
Requirements
The Audi Dome is the home venue of the FC Bayern basketball team. Due to increased spectator demand, plans were made to increase capacity from 6,791 to 7,600 seats, convert the press area into catering and retail space on the first floor, and convert the staff and ancillary rooms to the press area with an outside staircase in the basement.
In the feedback regarding the building application, it was stated that “increasing the capacity of the sports hall, based on past experiences, will also result in an increase in pedestrian and vehicular traffic. The compatibility of the future traffic volume, as well as the management of the anticipated parked vehicles within the existing road and path network, needs to be demonstrated through expert assessment.”
Implementation
To assess the current situation, Companeer conducted traffic observations and provided a qualitative description of the capacities and utilization of both moving and parked traffic. This information served as a basis for estimating the potential impacts of the capacity increase.
