Ostseestadion GmbH & Co. KG
Where to place the guests?
Due to the traffic routing to the stadium, the guest block of the Ostseestadion is located directly adjacent to the home fan curve in the South. In the past, this has led several times to incidents that disrupted or even threatened the safety of the event.
Relocating the guest block would limit the opportunity for both home and guest fans to engage in provocative acts and thus also reduce the potential for escalation.
The biggest challenge in this project was to find an arrival route that would allow the guest fans to be shuttled as before, to create access via a separate guest entrance and to guarantee fan separation in the routing to the new guest block.
Companeer identified and examined possible variations, including a visitor route from the current guest entrance under the grandstand to the new location of the guest block. The most promising variant was then developed further. In the end it appeard to be the best solution to relocate the guest entrance and to build a pedestrian bridge from there directly into the new guest block.
The project was discussed with all relevant authorities, e.g. the building authority, the police, the fire department and the city’s Office for Urban Green Space, Nature Conservation and Landscape Management, in order to find out about possible permit risks.
The study was rounded off by showing various variable guest block layouts with the associated budget considerations and a calculation of the additional possible ticket sales per season.
- Examining and evaluating the feasibility of a guest block on the North side of the Ostsee stadium compliant with legal regulations and DFL rules
- Investigating and evaluating the options for fan segregation in ingress, circulation, and egress without additional match operation restrictions
- Budget determination
- Designing several variants for the guest block layout
