Männeken Pis – A pilot project

Requirements

Due to the permanently high number of visitors during the playing times, there are more and more problems caused by “wild urinating” during this time. On the one hand, visitors to the games feel disturbed, and on the other hand, the increased “wild urinating” severely damages the green spaces on the Esplanade and the surrounding areas.

The existing urinals are currently operated with chemicals and are to be replaced with more ecological solutions.

Implementation

As part of a semester workshop at the University of Applied Sciences Munich, Companeer, in cooperation with PAN Planning Office for Applied Nature Protection, identified problem hotspots in the first step through an on-site analysis and compared them with the current toilet situation.

Subsequently, ecological solution options were developed with the students on the basis of the situation found.

One solution was to install a constructed wetland in the esplanade area.
